Beware Sign
Beware Sign

Place a sign to keep your dwarves from going a certain way. For example, you might want to do this if an area is full of monsters too tough for them to handle.

Pets cannot understand beware signs.

Ignoring the sign[ | ]

There are 3 cases where dwarfs will ignore the beware sign. In these cases, the sign will serve for nothing. The dwarf will bypass it as if there was no sign on their way.

  • If the siege mode (recall/retreat button) is turned on.
(All dwarfs will always take the shorter way to the shelter, completely and immediately ignoring the sign.)
  • If the horn spell is being used.
(All dwarfs will gather around the horn flag, completely and immediately ignoring the sign.)
  • Or if the 3 conditions below are matched at the same time:
    • the dwarf is carrying something;
    • he wants to deposit it in the stockpile; and
    • there is no other way from the dwarf's current position, to get to the stockpile, except the way that has been blocked with the sign.
(After a short pondering, the dwarf will ignore the sign, and carry their stuff to the stock.)

In this last case, if only one or two conditions are matched (not all three), the sign will be respected, and the dwarf will not bypass it. For example:

  • The dwarf is carrying something (not yet at their full carrying capacity), and he wants to pickup more stuff.
  • The dwarf wants to go to the stockpile to pick up items, not to deliver.
  • The dwarf is carrying something; he wants to deposit it in the stockpile; but there is one or more path options to go there.
(In this case he wont bypass the sign, but he will look for other ways to reach the stock.)

Note that dwarfs' passing through beware signs has been fixed a few time in various patches. The cases listed in this section however, have been confirmed by the developers to be the intended behavior.
