Grotto

A grotto is an overgrown secret room decorated with crystals, vegetation, stalagmites and waterfalls that can sometimes hold a hermit elf and a stone table, a magic tree, and/or breakable loot elements.

Elements[ | ]

Elf Statue[ | ]

The elf statue[1] is a breakable furniture-like item that can yield copious amounts of coins and crystals.

Elven Chest[ | ]

The elven chest[2] is a breakable furniture-like item that can yield copious amounts of loot.

Lianas[ | ]

Woody lianas hang from the clay ceiling and function as trees of the underground. They drop wood and roots, and they grow back relatively quickly.

Magic Tree[ | ]

The magic tree[3] is a bountiful fruit tree that periodically drops golden apples. Once the tree's leaves turn brown, it will bear no more fruit, but the dwarfs can cut it down to rejuvenate it.

Stone Table[ | ]

The stone table[4] is a magic elven table found in grottoes that reveals the location of ore deposits when the player offers it ore of the same type. The hermit elf stands over it offering hints about how to use it. Valid resources for scanning include:

If the player chooses to destroy the table, it drops a number of mineable resources like coal, iron and mithril.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Even though the game depicts a waterfall running through some grottoes, the water does not replenish when taken.
