The Sandbox Mode is a gameplay mode without the tech tree. In Sandbox Mode, recipes are dropped at random while digging. The player may reference their learned recipes to craft items. If the player happens to have memorized where each ingredient goes on the crafting table for any particular item(s), they may craft those items without needing to wait for the recipe. For example, knowing that the club is made by placing wood in the top left and center squares of the table, Clubs may be crafted as soon as the player has collected wood.

There is also a few decoration items that are actually not craftable in the campaign, but are in sandbox mode.[citation needed]
